Bunella ("we", "us", "our") provides the Bunella budget-tracking application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the Service, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have about your information.
By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Who we are

2. Information we collect
2.1 Account information
- Email address — used to identify your account and communicate with you.
- Password — stored securely when you create an account with an email address and password.
- Name — if you sign in with Google, we receive your first and last name from your Google account.
2.2 Financial information
To provide the Service, we collect and store the financial information you enter or import, including your accounts, transactions, payees (merchants), categories, budgets, and spending priorities. This may include details such as dates, amounts, descriptions, and currencies.
2.3 Information from connected bank accounts
If you choose to connect a bank account to import transactions automatically, we receive your account and transaction information through our open-banking partner. We do not receive or store your online banking login details, and you can disconnect a bank account at any time.
2.4 Files you import
If you import transactions by uploading a file or connecting a spreadsheet, we process the information contained in that file.
2.5 Usage and technical information
We collect limited technical and usage information to keep the Service secure and working properly, such as error reports, log data, and general usage information.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- Authenticate you and keep you signed in.
- Communicate with you about your account.
- Personalise your experience.
- Improve, secure, and diagnose issues with the Service.
- Comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your financial information for advertising.
4. Legal bases for processing
We process your personal information on the following legal bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the Service), for our legitimate interests (such as securing and improving the Service), with your consent where required, and to comply with legal obligations.
5. How we share information
We share information with a small number of service providers who help us operate the Service, including our sign-in provider (Google), our open-banking partner (Enable Banking), hosting and infrastructure providers, and error-monitoring services. We share information only as needed to provide the Service and do not authorise these providers to use your information for their own purposes.
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of Bunella, our users, or others.
6. Open Banking & Financial Data
If you choose to connect your bank accounts to our service, we use Enable Banking Oy ("Enable Banking") as our API provider to securely retrieve your financial information.
- Data retrieved & processed: When you connect an account, Enable Banking acts as an Account Information Service Provider (AISP) to retrieve read-only bank data on our behalf, including account details, account balances, and transaction history.
- Banking credentials: We never see, collect, or store your online banking login credentials, passwords, or PINs. Authentication happens directly and securely through your bank's own authorisation portal.
- Purpose of processing: We use this data solely to categorise your transactions, display financial insights, and provide the core features of our budgeting service.
- Security & storage: Retrieved transaction data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. We do not sell your financial data to third parties.
- Revoking access: You can revoke our permission to access your bank account at any time through your account settings or directly within your bank's open banking controls.
7. Google user data
Where you sign in with Google, our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs complies with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
8. Data security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet our legal obligations. If you would like to delete your account and its data, contact us at hello@bunella.app and we will process your request within 30 days.
10. Cookies and device storage
We use essential cookies and similar technology to keep you signed in. The mobile app stores your sign-in information securely on your device.
11. International data transfers
Where information is transferred outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
12. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. 13. Children's privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
